DRIVING MISS DAISY AUDITIONS
Join us for auditions for Driving Miss Daisy at Barn Lot Theater, scheduled on November 18 and 19th at 6 PM. This cherished Pulitzer Prize-winning play, set in the American South, explores themes of friendship, prejudice, and aging.

Audition Details:

  • Location: Barn Lot Theater Annex Building (formerly the Auction Barn Building), 107 N. Main St., Edmonton

  • Auditions involve a cold reading from the script, so no preparation is necessary.

  • If unavailable on the audition dates, please contact the theater to arrange an alternative.

Rehearsals and Performances:

  • Rehearsals start after Christmas, with performances planned for late February to early March 2025.

  • Expect rehearsals 2 to 3 nights per week, based on actor availability.

  • Please bring any known schedule conflicts to the auditions.

Parking:

  • Available in the alley beside the building or at the Metcalfe County government building next door.

Participation Requirements:

  • Volunteers aged 18 and over must pass a background check.

Character Descriptions:

  1. Daisy Werthan: A sharp-tongued Jewish widow with an Atlanta, Ga. accent; aged 72-97. Daisy is fiercely independent and resistant to change, but her relationship with her chauffeur, Hoke, evolves over the years.

  2. Hoke Colburn: Miss Daisy’s patient and dignified chauffeur, with a working-class Georgia accent; aged 60-85. He is a steady presence and eventually becomes a trusted friend to Daisy. Hoke is played by an African American actor.

  3. Boolie Werthan: Miss Daisy’s pragmatic son, with an Atlanta, Ga. accent; aged 40-65. Boolie is a successful businessman who tries to balance societal expectations with familial duties.

Please note ages provided are for reference purposes only. Casting will be dependent on ages of those auditioning. Additionally, actors may be artificially aged to fit their role(s).

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST BED AND BREAKFAST AUDITIONS
Join us for auditions for the Barn Lot Theater children’s production of Beauty and the Beast: Bed and Breakfast, to be held on Saturday, January 11, from 2 to 4 PM. This enchanting tale, set in a whimsical world, offers a delightful opportunity for young actors to explore themes of friendship, courage, and transformation.

Audition Details:

  • Location: Barn Lot Theater Annex Building (formerly the Auction Barn Building), 107 N. Main St., Edmonton.

  • Audition Format: Participants that are able to read will perform a cold reading from the script. For those who cannot read, they will need to be able to recite their favorite fairy tale. No other preparation is necessary, but enthusiasm and creativity are encouraged.

  • Alternative Arrangements: If you are unable to attend the scheduled audition, please contact info@barnlottheater.org to make alternative arrangements.

Rehearsals and Performances:

  • Rehearsals will begin late February or early March, with performances scheduled from March 27 to March 30, 2025.

  • Anticipate two rehearsals per week, increasing frequency as the production date approaches. Depending on the role cast, actors may not be required to attend all rehearsals. Please bring any known schedule conflicts to auditions.

Parking:

  • Available in the alley beside the building or at the Metcalfe County government building next door.

Participation Requirements:

  • This audition is open to young performers through 12th grade who are eager to bring this magical story to life on stage.

  • Adults may be cast in roles if needed, but preference is given to our young performers. Any volunteer over the age of 18 requires background check.

  • Bremen: Bellhop, dim but dutiful and kind-hearted (87 lines)

  • Muffy Mann: Chef, makes more than just muffins (79 lines)

  • Computer (voice only): Selective digital assistant (7 lines)

  • Bonnie Redcap: Traveling to visit Grandma, has interesting items in her picnic basket (87 lines)

  • Goldie Locks: Finicky, likes everything just right, loves porridge (60 lines)
